Schaumburg, IL (June 21, 2017) – Olympic Park, 1675 Old Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, IL will be host this year’s Umoja Games with 500+ soccer participants across 7 different categories, with teams coming from across North America, as well as across the Atlantic. Umoja Games is proud to welcome all of the participants as well as the public to join as spectators to their marquee event.
Umoja Outreach Foundation is a Muslim organization that began as an annual soccer tournament back in 2012, and has grown into a foundation that touches on the physical, social, and spiritual lives of the participants and community at large. Umoja Games, their annual event, provides a platform for men, women, boys, girls and toddlers to play a game they love and connect with other members of the greater community. Umoja Games has previously been organized in New York, Allentown, PA, Orlando, and Toronto, with the most recent version in 2016 (in New York) attracting 550+ participants.
In addition to the competition, another of the Umoja Outreach Foundation’s branches, Umojacare is making its tournament debut, introducing an on- site community service initiative in collaboration with the Hunger Van. Spectators and participants will have the opportunity to pack nutritious lunches for individuals in need. The Hunger Van will then facilitate the distribution of those lunches to impoverished areas.
