Event benefits local charity Adaptive Adventures
The Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival returns to Arlington Heights for its fifth year.
Arlington Heights, IL (July 30th, 2016) – For four years, families and spectators of all ages, have come to Lake Arlington to experience the variety of activities, refreshments and entertainment acts found throughout the festival grounds and this year will be no different. Recognized as the Best Single-Sport Event by the SportsTravel Awards, the festival will host forty dragon boat teams from the Midwest region. Everyone in the community is welcome to come down to cheer on the dragon boats and discover the magic of 22 hearts beating as one.
The weekend’s festivities are an opportunity to immerse the community in the culture and spirit of dragon boat racing, which dates back 2,500 years to ancient China. Beyond the water competition, Ascene Chicago is presenting the Asian Cultural Village with multicultural performances, musical acts, workshops and demonstrations throughout the day. The Kids Zone offers active outdoor fun, games and activities for children. Festival goers will also be able to wander through the Expo Village complete with mobile food vendors on-site to round off a day by the water with a tasty treat.
The Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival benefits a local charity, Adaptive Adventures. Funds raised through the event will help to provide progressive outdoor sports opportunities to improve quality of life for children, adults and wounded veterans with physical disabilities.
