Lynfred Winery Oktoberfest Sept 28-29

Roselle, IL (Sept. 10, 2019) – Celebrate two days of German sing-a-longs, as well as grape spitting and grape stomping contests for the adventurous souls! What makes this Oktoberfest special is its ties to its wine heritage, including the festival’s aptly named Oktoberfest wine, an off-dry and fruity Riesling. The Oktoberfest festival was started 40 years ago by Lynfred Winery founders Lynn and Fred Koehler. The festival celebrates Koehler’s German heritage and love for hospitality.

Although the Oktoberfest has become quite famous for its grape stomping and grape spitting contests, the king of the weekend always ends up being the roasted pork, which you can enjoy either as a sandwich or a full meal, served with warm German potato salad and all the fixings. Not to miss are the grilled bratwurst burgers, our homemade chili, pretzels and especially the fresh grilled sweet corn. Those with a sweet tooth can visit our dessert booth for taffy apples, apple strudel or German chocolate cake. Naturally all these delights are delicious when paired with Lynfred’s Oktoberfest wine, which will be released at the start of the festival.

In addition to grape spitting and grape stomping contests, those dressed in Lederhosen or like Lucy stomping grapes have a chance to win a spirited costume contest! The festival is family friendly with kid competitions also including cork tossing, similar to Bozo’s Buckets, and free face painting each day for kids.

This year Lynfred Winery will be celebrating its 40th anniversary! The Roselle American Legion’s Color Guard will open the festival on Saturday at noon, followed by a ceremonial toast of Oktoberfest Wine by Roselle Mayor Andy Maglio.
