Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg Rotarians Return to 1969 to Celebrate the Rotary Club’s 50th Birthday and Giveaway Nearly $17,000

­­ SCHAUMBURG, IL (March 5, 2020) – The ROTARY CLUB OF SCHAUMBURG-HOFFMAN ESTATES is preparing for its major fundraiser – THE CLASSIC 50TH BIRTHDAY BASH – on March 14th from 6-11:30 PM at the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg. Approximately 325 guests are expected to attend this energetic and groovy 1969-themed event that also features a Grand Prize Drawing, Live and Silent Auctions. Everybody’s Talkin’ ‘bout it!

Event Co-Chairs Jean Schlinkmann, retired Executive Director of the Schaumburg Park District, and Rosemary Justen, a Professional Resume Writer, have many exciting things planned for This Magic Moment in Rotary time. Photo opportunities will abound and theme-dressed guests will have a rare chance to have their picture taken with John, Paul, Ringo and George as they cross Abbey Road. Neil Armstrong and Big Bird will also be on hand. Or they may gather around a VW Bus for a festive group shot.

There will be opportunities to bid on fabulous Live Auction items, such as a cooking class and 3-course dinner with world-class Chef Dave Esau (Dave’s Specialty Foods in Mt. Prospect), an upbeat 4 day/3 night trip to Nashville, and a gourmet chef dinner at MonAmi Gabi in Oak Brook. Among a plethora of Silent Auction items are autographed merchandise from Joan Baez and ShaNaNa, behind-the-scenes tours of Woodfield Mall and the Schaumburg convention center, trips to Mexico, Hilton Head and Wisconsin, sports collectibles and experiences, restaurant gift cards, hotel stays, and theater tickets.

Hoffman Estates Mayor William McLeod and Schaumburg Village President Tom Dailly will serve as Honorary Chairs and introduce the program video that presents the positive impact the club has had in both villages during the past 50 years of Service Above Self (the creed members strive to uphold in their professional and personal lives). Can You Dig It!

This very active service club has raised over $5 million for the Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates communities (including $250,000 for the Women’s & Children’s wing of the St. Alexius Hospital and $100,000 for the Children’s Home + Aid Society’ Schaumburg location), contributed countless hours to hands-on projects and dedicated itself to Let the Sunshine brighter for:

  • abused children and preventing violence against children,
  • victims of domestic violence,
  • children born in high-risk environments,
  • children and adults with disabilities,
  • people with Down Syndrome,
  • hungry students to foster a quest for learning,
  • older adults and seniors,
  • those in need, and
  • students who would otherwise be denied advanced studies ($100,000* in scholarships awarded during 2018-19 Rotary Year.

In collaboration with its community partners, such as Children’s Advocacy Center, WINGS, Children’s Home + Aid Society, Northwest Special Recreation Association, GiGi’s Playhouse, Consolidated Community School District 54, High School District 211, Kenneth Young Center, Harper College, POC, Schaumburg Fire Department, and Hoffman Estates Police Department, and with the financial assistance of its loyal supporters, the Rotary Club of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates looks toward the next 50 years of Service to the Community.
