One-of-a-kind 3D Creativity Museum, Blocks to Bricks, to Open at Woodfield Mall

ASHA SalonSpa Also Coming Soon

SCHAUMBURG, IL (February 20, 2018) – Simon, a global leader in premier shopping, dining and entertainment destinations, today announced the anticipated May 2018 opening of a first-of-its-kind experiential concept, Blocks to Bricks, at Woodfield Mall. The brainchild of Arlington Heights, Ill.-native Adam Reed Tucker, one of only 16 LEGO® Certified Professionals in the world and creator of the LEGO Architecture line, Blocks to Bricks is conceived as an immersive celebration of 3D imagination.

Part museum, part hi-tech, interactive adventure, part retail store, the 13,000-sq.-ft. experience takes visitors through a serpentine of discovery covering nearly 150 years of construction “toys.” More than 6,000 rare and unique artifacts, including an original Lincoln Log set created by the son of Frank Lloyd Wright, trace the evolution of creative materials from stone through wood, metal, paper and plastic. The largest of 13 walk-through zones is dedicated to the LEGO brick, featuring mind-boggling, oversized creations by Tucker and other of the world’s most talented LEGO artists, a black-light room, and display of every LEGO piece and LEGO mini-figure ever made.

“If Willy Wonka made toys instead of candy, I expect this is what his factory would have looked like,” said Tucker, whose Brick by Brick exhibit had an extended two-year stay at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. “I wanted to create an environment in which visitors of all ages could embrace their personal passion for design and creativity. For some, Blocks to Bricks will be a stroll down memory lane; for others, the inspiration to become the builders of tomorrow.”

Guests can watch LEGO artisans at work in their model shop, or opt for a face-to-face meeting with Tucker himself behind the vaulted door of his private, on-site design studio. In the glass-enclosed production lab, a state-of-the-art injection molding machine will churn out one brightly-colored 2-by-4-inch brick every 15 seconds, which will then be transported via a conveyer belt to the Blocks to Bricks retail store.

The retail store will offer a unique selection of items not available anywhere else in the area, including brand-exclusive and one-of-a-kind pieces, vintage sets and limited editions. Children, and adults, will be able to make their own LEGO creations from bricks in a spectrum of exclusive colors and take their original creations home at a per-ounce price.

Blocks to Bricks will be located on the middle-level mezzanine of Woodfield Mall, overlooking the mall’s Grand Court.

“We’re delighted Adam and his team chose Woodfield Mall as the site for this exciting undertaking,” said Woodfield Mall General Manager Kurt Webb. “It’s particularly gratifying when local standouts are able to join our roster of top-name national brands. This spring, in addition to Blocks to Bricks, we’ll be welcoming Chicago-based ASHA SalonSpa to the mall.”

Moving to Woodfield Mall from its previous Schaumburg, Ill., location, ASHA SalonSpa will bring the resources of the Chicago area’s largest Aveda Lifestyle SalonSpa to mall clientele, as of summer 2018. The 7,952-sq.-ft. salon and spa will offer haircuts, hair color, makeup, massages, waxing, manicures, pedicures and other specialty Aveda treatments. ASHA SalonSpa will be located in Woodfield Mall’s lower level Sears wing, underneath the mall’s highly-anticipated dining pavilion, scheduled to open this summer. It will have its own exterior entrance.
