CHICAGOPEX 2016 Postage Stamp Show coming to Itasca Nov. 18-20, offers free stamps for kids

CHICAGO, IL (October 30, 2016) – CHICAGOPEX 2016 postage stamp show features local stamp collectors and a worldwide focus, with dealers, exhibits and free worldwide used stamps for kids and families. The free weekend show takes place Fri-Sun, Nov. 18-20 at the Westin Chicago Northwest, 400 Park Blvd., Itasca, Ill.

Novice collectors and beginners of all ages are invited to attend. There will be many specialized collectors and dealers ready to share their knowledge and mentor new collectors. The show is free and open to the public.

The Beginner’s Stamp Collecting Youth Booth captures the show’s themes. Scandinavian Collectors Club and the American Air Mail Society will have many exhibits of airmail, a worldwide theme, plus Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden stamps and postal history. The show will also feature stamps of Europe. Stamps from the United States Postal Service (USPS) and United Nations Postal Administration will be available for purchase.

The Beginner’s Stamp Collecting Youth Booth will have free casual collecting for kids, with a quarter million stamps to browse. Each child may fill one bag with stamps per day. The youth booth will operate all hours of the show. The youth area will feature stamp games and free giveaways. Parents with children are welcome to stay and browse. Stamps for Kids is sponsored in part by Chicago Philatelic Society.

The full schedule will appear in the show program, which will be available at the hospitality desk in the hotel’s atrium. This year’s show theme is “Celebrating 60 Years of Europa Stamps.” Special souvenir show cachets and cancellation will be available for all three days of the show. Many stamp collecting clubs and societies will hold meetings at the show to socialize with collectors of similar interests, among them: Illinois Postal History Society, Military Postal History Society, Chicago Philatelic Society, Germany Philatelic Society Chapter #5, USPCS Banknote Study Group, as well as the Scandinavian Collectors Club and the American Air mail Society.

There will be 290 frames of philatelic material on display with something of interest for all attendees. 2016 also marks the 50th anniversary of the philatelic literature competition with the books and other materials on display. CHICAGOPEX is also serving as a test site for electronic literature such as websites, blogs and online articles.

The show will feature 75 dealers from the United States and Europe. They will offer a vast array of material to interest everyone: from the beginning collector to the advanced collector and exhibitor.

About Chicago Philatelic Society (CPS):
Organized Oct. 8, 1886, continuing the Chicago Stamp Collectors Union, which was organized in Dec. 1884. CPS is chapter no.1 of the American Philatelic Society and one of two organizations with the longest uninterrupted service to philately in the United States. Each month, CPS holds meetings on the third Thursday in downtown Chicago at the Harold Washington Library (400 S. State St.) in meeting room 3N-6. Meetings run 7 p.m.-9 p.m. and usually include a philatelic presentation and society business. All are welcome. Many speakers are advanced collectors who share insights on exciting stamp and postal history subjects. Members also attend a Dutch-treat dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the Berghoff (17 W. Adams St.).
